From 2008 to 2011, Dr. Joshi was Co-Chair of the APARRI working group. APARRI is a community advancing the interdisciplinary study of Asian Pacific Americans and their religions.

Through conferences, mentoring, and collaboration, APARRI promotes the professional development of scholars and the distinctive field of Asian Pacific American religious studies. Since 1999, the annual APARRI gatherings have been opportunities for scholars and community leaders involved in work on issues of Asian American and Pacific Islander religion to share research, exchange ideas and build relationships in a relaxed, supportive conference setting. Emphasis is place on the development of APA religious studies as a field, the encouragement of emerging scholarship, and the mentoring of scholars and leaders. In 2011, under Dr. Joshi’s co-leadership, the Managing Board decided to focus its efforts on creating a strategic plan for the group and held a working group to plan for the future.
