Dr. Khyati Y Joshi was invited by the Honorable Hany Mawla, J.S.C., of the Superior Court of New Jersey, to be the guest speaker at the annual Spring Symposium hosted by the Advisory Committee on Minority Concerns for Vicinage XIII, which encompasses the courts of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties. Dr. Joshi’s talk, “Race in America, Past and Present,” focused on the role of race in the formulation of public policy in the second half of the twentieth century, and on the history of U.S. immigration law and policy in the 19th and 20th centuries to the present. The event was attended by public- and private-sector attorneys, educators, law enforcement professionals including the Hunterdon County Sheriff, law clerks, social workers, CASA advocates, county and judiciary employees, and other members of the public. Attorneys who attended earned 2.7 continuing legal education credits (ethics) and other eligible attendees received 3.0 professional development credits.
